The other side of 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status: A Private Charity run by 100% family members and no fundraising
A Talk by CARL DIMAILIG (CHARTERED ADVISOR IN PHILANTHROPY®, GUARDIAN ANGEL ADVISERS)

About this Talk
Do you want to be a philanthropist, but are concerned with arguing with board members and meeting fundraising goals? Do you already support charitable causes but don't have the energy for boots on the ground activities? Sometimes a public charity might not be the best option, especially when you consider that you could be reinventing the wheel. There is another type of 501(c)(3) whose sole responsibility is to fund causes they care about. No fundraising and no direct charitable activities, just provide funds to the causes you care about. Most of your time is spent discovering which causes to support, and with how much funding.
This is called a private family foundation and is an excellent option for those who want to support causes they care about but just don't have the time and energy to volunteer or create fundraising programs.
This presentation will clear up the mystique behind private foundations, dispel the rumors that you have to be a billionaire to have one, and clarify the simplicity of how to properly administer one so your foundation retains tax-exempt status.
